Our home opener brought heartbreak as we lost a close 9-7 match against the visitors from New York. Despite a strong effort from NM Jason Lu going 4-0 on board 2, the rest of the team failed to break even. Newcomers NM David Grasso and Ethan Klein both came away with 1-3 while John Mullanaphy had a rough go finishing 0.5-3.5.
New York brought a strong team with an average rating of 2188.25! Leading the team was NM Lev Paciorkowski, a strong up and coming master and NY State Champion. Along with Lev were three strong experts, Shawn Martinez, Angel Lopez, and the child prodigy Tanitoluwa Adewumi! Passers were up for the challenge yet struggled to convert some positions, failed in opening prep, and fell to constant time pressure.
This close loss has left the Passers middle of the road with a 1.5-1.5 record so far with plenty of matches still to be played.
Game of the Week
Going against the grain, where Passers were under prepared, this game saw David come out of the opening with a clear advantage and never took his foot off the gas.
